, our inaugural educator professional development event, held on 22nd June in Design Museum London, featured a Further Education Showcase Session delivered by Microsoft UK, The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, and Belfast Metropolitan.
Clare Riley discussed the work of the Microsoft Education team in supporting Further Education, the wealth of CPD on the Microsoft Educator Community including MCE for the FE space. This led into a presentation by Torcato Coutinho, where he discussed in depth the importance and value of Microsoft Certified Educator certification for the professional development of educators in FE.
Peter Doherty covered the successful in-depth implementation and delivery of certifications across several programmes including MOS, MTA, Adobe and Autodesk discussed the importance and value of Microsoft Certified Educator certification for professional development of educators in FE.

Clare’s current role involves working with colleges and universities across the UK, focusing on professional development for faculty and future-ready skills for students – the latter being part of a company-wide initiative to boost the digital skills and global competitiveness of the UK as a whole.
Clare wholeheartedly supports the ambitious goals to equip all students with the tech skills they will need in the future; to encourage many more to study computing and to get more women into tech. (Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessment, The College of Haringey, Enfield and North-East London (CONEL) part of Capital City College Group)
Torcato is a multilingual professional who has worked in the technology sector for a number of years and the education and training sector since 2005 as a teacher and manager involved in a number of outstanding teaching learning and assessment (OTLA) projects at local and national level.
He is currently Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessment at CONEL leading on OTLA projects, quality improvement, staff development, e-learning strategy and development plan as well as taking the role of awarding organisations’ Nominee for the college. Peter Doherty
(Senior IT/ Digital Media Technician, Vendor Certifications Manager Belfast Metropolitan College)
Peter has been the Vendor Certification Manager at Belfast Metropolitan College since 2005. He manages a variety of certification programmes from Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Adobe, Autodesk & Amazon and currently Belfast Met delivers approx. 2000 exams per annum. He has been a Microsoft Certified trainer since 2005 and a Cisco Certified Instructor since 2012.
Peter started his career as a software developer in the year 2000 and in 2003 moved into the Education sector. In 2012 Peter co-founded CoderDojo Belfast, a coding club for kids aged 6-16 with around 120 kids attending each session. Over the past few years Peter has been involved in utilising Minecraft in the classroom and has recently been awarded the status of Minecraft Global Mentor for 2018 along with developing a number of innovate programmes.
